New games can happen spontaneously at any time. Here is a game that started with a Yoga Pose called Legs up the Wall. The child thought that finding mom in such a pose was an interesting event. She was invited to join mom on the wall. She needed a little help figuring out how to get in this position but once there, she is pleased to look around at the world from this position. Mom and daughter grin at each other and hold hands for a while. Gradually, an imitation game begins.
Later, the Lego People played almost the same game. Pretend Play games that involve lots of play characters and social scripts are usually too confusing to young children with ASD but adding bits of pretend into movement games and pretending simple activities with dolls is a good way to introduce the idea of pretend.
